BUYER
BEWARE: High-end OCEANIC reproductions have been emerging on
major internet auction sites... Skilled craftsman in Australia and
to a lesser extent Germany are making convincing fakes to intentionally
fool collectors. These objects include: Marquesas Island U'U clubs,
Easter Island Figures, Solomon Island canoe prow ornaments, New Guinea Torres Strait Turtle Shell
masks, New Guinea Papuan Gulf shields etc. Unsuspecting buyers have paid close to
$20,000 for such pieces! There is next to ZERO probability of an important cultural
artwork being "authentic" where the seller claims they have no
clue what the object is. Stick with the old adage and play it safe: "If it looks too good to be true it probably
is"!
