TIWI CEREMONIAL FEMALE FIGURE BY MICKEY GERANIUM WARLAPINNI

Origin: N. Australia, Northern Territory, Melville Island  Provenance: Acquired from Bill Jamieson (Toronto) in 2004

Artist:  Mickey Geranium Warlapinni   Period/Date:  Early 1960s

Materials: Harwood, natural pigments

Description:  This rare female sculpture is one of the earlier works by Waralapinni "Mickey Geranium".  She has raised breasts with arms at the sides with head turned to the right.  The face has a distinctly pointed chin with open mouth having an overall serene countenance.  It retains much of its original paint.  There is a natural separation along the torso which I think serves to punctuate the compartmentalized dot motif (If desired this area can be filled and blended by a restorer for a fee).

Dimensions:   Height: 29.5"  (77.5 cm), Width 4.25"  (11 cm)
