Origin: Melanesia, Solomon Group, Bellona, commonly attributed to Rennell Island "Polynesian Outlier" (Provenance: Michael Evans- Dijon France) Period/Date: 1st quarter of the 20th century Materials: hardwood, plant dye, pandanus fiber, bark, bush string Description: Rennell island is home to an obscure spectrum of clubs. The design of this unusual six bladed club is typically seen on longer clubs and scepters. What makes this example special is that its original woven (pandanus?) fiber with geometric motifs is still intact!
