FOLK ART SEA OTTER

Description: This cute little fellow, so hated by Abalone fisherman is whimsically depicted floating on his back.   Sea otters have the densest fur of any mammal.  Hair density varies dramatically with location on the body, ranging from about 170,000-1,062,000 per square inch.  Knowing this, the artist took extra care and time to accurately finely texture the fur.  It likely dates to the 1960's and was made in two pieces (the Otter and its water base).  In good condition with some slight loss to the bottom flippers.
