NAYARIT GUARDIAN FIGURE HOLDING A CLUB

 

Origin:  Western Mexico    Provenance:  Ex. collection of Dr. George Alan Solem, American malacologist (curator of invertebrates at the Field Museum of Natural History, Chicago)  It is believed that Dr. Solem likely acquired the figure in the 1970's from either Harry Franklin Gallery in Beverly Hills or J.J. Klejman in New York.

Period: 250 B.C.-200 A.D.

Materials:  slip painted ceramic

Condition:  Several glued mends to various appendages.  Possible restoration to left kneecap?

Dimensions:   Height 13.75"  (35 cm), Width 5"  (13 cm)
