Description:  Here's an expressive high quality Monpa mask (presented on a custom metal stand).   It represents "Houshang",  a Chinese monk who attempted to convert Tibet to a Chinese form of Buddhism in the 8th century.   The mask is terrific from every angle and has a dark rich varied patina acquired from long use.  Its surface is quite old and worn but it retains a red paint or pigment which was applied over a black lacquer.  A small tuft of Goat hide affixed with pitch or resin is on top.  There are pierced holes in the top and through the ears.   It is in good condition except for an old glued mend to the right ear lobe and a couple old chips to the top rim.

Dimensions:  Height 9" (23 cm),  Width 7.5"  (9 cm)
