Origin:   N.E. India, Himalayas, Arunachal Pradesh, Sherdukpa - Monpa People   (Provenance: Previously in an old San Francisco Collection )

Period/Date:  At least early 20th century, Possibly 19th century (see the wear and patination on the inside)

Materials:  Goat skin/fur, felt, and human hair

Dimensions:  Overall Length 45" (114.5 cm),  Width 19"  (48.5 cm) 

Description:  Here is a superb and very dramatic "Ache Lhamo" Opera mask (presented on a custom display stand).  The Goat fur mask is donned by a ritual dancer and is held in place by a leather headgear inside.  Old hand stitched cut felt in red, green and teal blue complete the eyes, nose and mouth.  Notice the human hair braids encircling the face and also attached to the back.  The back braid or tail measures and impressive 20 inches long!!  Although this mask shows extensive wear and use, it is in excellent condition.
