Period/Date:  late 19th century, made for sale to colonialists

Materials:  hardwood, haliotis shell

Description:  A classic old curio featuring the likeness of a Maori chief wearing a flax cloak, facial tattooing with inset haliotis shell eyes.  In good condition with some minor scratches and normal wear.
