UNUSUAL ERODED KARKAR ISLAND FIGURE
Origin: Period/Date: 19th-Early 20th century Materials: wood, traces of lime infill around the mouth and eyes. Dimensions: Height 36.5" (92 cm), Width 5.5" (14 cm) Description: This mysterious figure was collected by Loed Van Bussel on Karkar Island in the 1970s, however, It may or may not originally be from KarKar. It is poetically eroded having a strong spiritual presence. It has a furtive gaze with slightly downward tilting head. The raised symbol on the chest is a unique and curious feature which is typically seen in the Admiralty Islands to the North.
