SUPERB CONGO HOLO PIPE WITH CROUCHING FIGURE
Origin:
Period/Date: Early 20th Century, possibly older Materials: Hardwood, fiber Description: Here's a superb quality pipe of a crouching ancestor figure. I'm suggesting it might be Ngbaka based on the notched scarification along the forehead, cheeks and ears. Its swollen stomach has an inserted wood bowl for tobacco, while there is a hole in the head to receive a pipe stem. It has acquired a semi-encrusted patina from very long use resulting in rich color turning to a reddish-brown. In good condition with only slight loss to the side of the pipe bowl. I remember seeing a similar pipe in a book Marc Felix published but I can't locate it. Dimensions: Height: 5.5" (14 cm), Width 3.75" (9.5 cm) Price: SOLD
