1870'S CHINESE PEKING ART GLASS, DRAGONS W/ PEARL OF WISDOM
Origin: China Period/Date: C. 1870's Materials: Glass Description: This impressive glass ensemble was obviously made by a highly skilled glass artist. The movement and expression of the Dragons are noteworthy! They are seen protecting a "glowing pearl of wisdom". Even the linked chain is glass! In fine condition with one glued mend to the end of the curled arm holding the pearl of wisdom. Chinese Dragons are associated with a pearl of wisdom either pursuing it, or held in the mouth, under the chin, or in the claws. This glowing pearl is said to be their source of supernatural powers and not surprisingly, dragons protect it fiercely. In connection with the Chinese dragon and the pearl has been called the image of thunder, of the moon, of the sun, of the egg emblem of the dual influences of nature, and the 'pearl of potentiality'. The pearl is most often depicted as a spiral or a globe. In some paintings it is sometimes red, sometimes gold, sometimes the bluish white of a true pearl. The pearl is often accompanied by little jagged flashes that seem to spark out from it, like flames; and it almost always has an appendage in the form of a small undulating sprout, not unlike the first young shoot from a bean.Dimensions: Height of Monkey 4" (10 cm), Width of Dog 2.5" (6.5 cm) Price: $750 Currency Conversion A custom stand may be ordered for an additional fee FREE SHIPPING With (Buy Now) Feature!
