NEPALESE BUTTER CHURN HANDLE WITH SEATED RIDER

Origin: W. Nepal, The Himalayas   (Provenance: Acquired from an old New York City Collection)

Period/Date: Likely Early 20th Century

Materials:  Dense Hardwood

Description:  This lovely churn handle is presented on a custom wood base.  It features a compelling figure with forward thrust shoulders riding a Yak.  It is far less common to see churn handles with figures like this as opposed to typical ones with friezes and geometric patterns.  This is a powerful example made by a skilled carver with technical prowess.  There is the remains of a partial export seal on the other side.  In good condition with no loss or damage.
