ONE-OF-A-KIND 19TH C. NEW CALEDONIAN BIRD HEAD CLUB WITH PHALLIC HANDLE!

Origin: Melanesia, New Caledonian, Kanak people  (Provenance: Acquired from a private collection in San Francisco)

Period/Date:  19th century

Materials: Rainforest Hardwood

Description:  Here's a classic early bird head club with a UNIQUE feature.  Instead of the typical cylinder-like handle terminal, this one has a well defined oversized phallus!   This owner/craftsman was making quite a bold statement with this weapon and emblem of power.  The uniqueness and rarity of this specimen can't be overstated.  To my knowledge this is the only one known.  It is mounted on a custom metal stand as seen in the second photo below.   It has various dings, minor chips and hairline age cracks associated with age and long use.  Sure to be a welcome addition to any collection of oceanic art or tribal weapons.  Presented on a custom metal stand.

Dimensions:   Length: 25.5"  (65 cm), Width 13.5"  (34.5 cm), Phallic handle: With 2.5"  (6.5 cm), Lenght 4.5" (11.5 cm)
