CAMEROON WOMAN'S BEADED CACHE-SEXE/ DANCE APRON

 

Origin: N. Cameroon or Chad, Mandara Mountains, Kirdi People or related group     (Provenance: Acquired from an old collection in Amsterdam, Netherlands)

Period/Date: Late 19th-Early 20th century

Materials:  Animal hide, glass beads, brass chain, (rings appears to be made of silver or other metal with like patina)

Description:  This beautiful old apron features bold bands of red, white and navy blue beads stitched onto animal hide.  It has a 5.25" ring (silver?) for attachment and has lavish brass chain fringe, the ends of which have attached red and blue beads.  In very good condition with a couple missing length of chain.

Dimensions:   Width 2.75"  (7 cm), Length 10.5"  (25.5 cm),  Overall length with ring 15.5"  (38.5 cm)
