CLASSIC ADMIRALTY ISLAND OBSIDIAN FIGHTING SPEAR

Origin: Melanesia, Admiralty Islands, Manus People

Period/Date:   Early 20th Century (possibly late 19th century)

Materials:  wood, fiber, green glass trade beads, lime, charcoal and ocher pigments

Description:  Here's a long traditional fighting spear with obsidian point.  It features numerous decorative green glass trade beads treaded and inset into its shaft.  What's special about it is that it is full length being preserved intact and uncut!   The obsidian point has been chipped off which is very common and would be expected on a piece of this vintage used in warfare.  There is an old stable age crack to the base of its head.  It has acquired a dry varied patina from long use.  Note: to save the buyer on shipping costs I will reluctantly cut the spear down if desired.

Due to its length, International Shipping Costs are estimated to be $300 but could be more depending on location.  Please email for Quote
