19TH C. INCISED QUEENSLAND BOOMERANG, EX. MCALPINE COLLECTION 

 

Origin:  Western New South Wales/ Southern Queensland  (Provenance: Ex. Lord Mc Alpine of West Green, UK )

Description:  This early boomerang is decorated with continuous incised linked diamond motifs.  It has received numerous coats of red ocher pigment.  A hole in the back has been filled with native spinefex resin.  There is a unique stable age crack, not a break, which is a characteristic of its particular wood type.  It has acquired a dark rich brown patina turning to red.  The black print in back reads: WEST. NSW/ CENT. QLD NO.151.  The stand shown in the photo is not included.
